10 Android apps you won’t be able to live without…

Do you have a new Android smartphone, or are you just looking for new apps? We are here to help you! Here is a selection of the best applications available for Android smartphones.

1. Manual Camera, to film

Manual CameraManual Camera

The best and most complete camera app you can get for Android. If you want to be able to change a bunch of settings before hitting the capture button, this is the app for you. It’s the closest thing to a DSLR that you can play with while only having to carry your smartphone.

Download Manual Camera from the Google Play Store.

2. LastPass, the password manager

Setting up a new device requires entering passwords, and rather than relying on autofill in Google Chrome, I have a separate password manager. I chose LastPass because it has a lot of features, especially security features that let me lock my LastPass account, and it works across a range of devices.

Lastpass is a very popular password manager, available in free or paid version, and compatible with all Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS platforms.

Probably the best password manager, whether you choose the free or premium version. It’s a fantastic tool that not only saves your passwords, but also makes them very easy to use. The free version is particularly useful as it allows you to sync your data across different devices.

3. Battery Widget Reborn 2019, for battery management

Everything you need to know about your Android smartphone battery, and much more! I find the widget particularly useful, and it’s on my home screen. This is one of those apps where the developer keeps working on the app and adding more and more features, removing bugs and keeping new Android versions supported.

Battery Widget Reborn Free is a free application for Android smartphones and tablets that displays your battery percentage as a widget on your main screen and provides you with other information about the status of your battery.

4. Authy, two-factor authentication

When possible, I like to have two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect my online accounts, and when hardware 2FA isn’t possible, then an authenticator app is a good alternative.

Twilio Authy is an application for mobile devices under Android or iOS that allows you to set up two-factor authentication to secure your internet accounts.

Many password managers have built-in authentication apps. I chose Authy because it keeps my passwords separate, and the app works on virtually every platform imaginable.

5. VPN: F-Secure Freedome

I’ve been using this VPN service for years, and although I’ve tried others, I keep coming back to it because it’s easy to use, it’s simple, it works, and it works. This app is one of the best I’ve used. The perfect prescription for dodgy Wi-Fi connections.

F-Secure Freedome VPN allows you to browse the internet in complete security. The VPN tunnel it provides will make your connections anonymous and avoid trackers and external attacks.

A completely anonymous VPN that lets you save bandwidth on the internet, whether you’re browsing on a cellular network or in a free Wi-Fi cafe. Great speed, unlimited bandwidth, and robust privacy make it a much better choice than a free VPN app (which can be questionable).

6. Tile, the tracker

TileTile

I’ve become a real Tile pro over the past year or so. I don’t lose things very often, but I have been misplacing things for a while now. To avoid this kind of hassle, I now have a Beacon Tile in my luggage, laptop bag, wallet and backpack. I like that I can also use a Tile to find my lost smartphone.

Go to the Tile website.

7. Solid Explorer, the file manager

Some people get by for years without ever needing a file manager. Others need one directly after receiving their smartphone. If you’re in the second category of people, here’s an app packed with features, like compressed file support and password protection. Besides being a local file manager, it is also a great cloud storage manager, which supports Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.

Download Solid Explorer from the Google Play Store.

8. The WiFiAnalyzer network analyzer

A super handy app that lets you analyze Wi-Fi networks directly from your Android device. Particularly useful for measuring signal strength or identifying congested channels.

Download WifiAnalyzer from the Google Play Store.

9. MacroDroid, for automation

MacroDroidMacroDroid

MacroDroid is an automation application that allows you to set a trigger to perform an action performed as a result of that trigger. You can also narrow the scope of triggers using constraints. The great thing about MacroDroid is that there are lots of triggers and actions to choose from, and you can get very creative with specific apps.

Download MacroDroid from the Google Play Store.

10. Waze, essential for professional and personal travel

A beautiful, well-equipped in-car navigation app that takes Google Maps to the next level. I love the simplicity of this app, and I find the way it presents my trip to be enjoyable and easy to understand. Also works with Android Auto. A great co-pilot app.

Waze is a community-based GPS navigation app. Thanks to it, you are warned of all the dangers of the road and traffic, and you can also warn others.
