it also charges your electronic devices

With a removable battery and its clever functions, the Lemmo One is a light and muscular electric bike at the same time, combining different uses. Special feature: it can also recharge several electronic devices.

The choice between a muscle bike and an electric bike can sometimes be complicated. We can experiment when we have a medium distance journey, or when we hesitate between the simplicity and lower weight of a mechanical, and the lesser need for effort with an electric but heavier one. Light bikes can respond to this in-between: the Lemmo brand adds its originality.

A practical removable battery for light cycling

Born in Berlin (Germany), Lemmo designed the lightweight electric bike that can transform into a muscle bike with its “One”. The principle is simple: a battery can be clipped onto the frame in a few seconds to activate the electric part of the bike. Obviously the motor and wiring remain.

However, by embedding the electronics including the controller and the connected part (GPS, 4G, because app available), it is a significant weight gain in mechanical use, with 3 kg in total. Light with its 17 kg in belt version (18 kg in derailleur) – thanks to the carbon fork – it increases to 14 kg once the block is removed.

The removable “Smartpac” battery is inspired a little by the idea of the Powerbank of a (late) Vanmoof, i.e. a trapezoid-shaped block imitating the shape of the frame. Everything is secured by an electronic lock, and a strap allows it to be transported. And this does not limit the capacity, since we are talking here about 540 Wh, or up to 100 km according to Lemmo.

The battery can also be used for other devices, as Lemmo has integrated USB-A and USB-C sockets. Which can be very practical if you don’t have a socket nearby. And it’s quite pretty with its fabric sides, suggesting a large Bluetooth speaker.

The motor is fixed, with a new function

The only small curiosity of the Lemmo One is that you have to press a button on the rear axle to switch from one mode to another, by disengaging the rear motor by 40 Nm. The advantage of this “Dual Mode Hub”, at double clutch therefore, is to be able to drive mechanically or electrically regardless of whether the battery is installed.

The interest is above all to remove the friction inherent to the motor used here, removing the resistance to pedaling. Other e-bikes can simply set an off mode on the handlebars, or on the display, with some having frictionless motors.

A battery also to rent, but…

Finally, the Lemmo electric bike is the ideal tool for combining several types of journeys or as desired. Driving mechanically for a handful of kilometers, then transforming it into an e-bike for a commuter machine for 15 km is an interesting idea.

In addition to this, Lemmo offers to rent the battery rather than buying it. This reinforces the different uses from one season to the next or according to needs, while retaining the motor integrated into the bike. This choice is however only possible in Berlin initially, between 35 and 45 euros per month.

A not-so-high price for the Lemmo One lightweight bike

Available in three sizes – closed or semi-open frame 26 inches, XL 28 inches – in two colors (gray or sand), with a belt or a 10-speed derailleur, the Lemmo One is configurable as desired. The price therefore varies: from 1,090 euros without the battery with the chain, an additional 200 euros with a belt, and count 900 euros for the battery.

1,990 euros for a light electric bike, with a large battery, connected, with 4-piston brake calipers, with complete equipment and with this clever system in addition, it’s attractive. We also like the removable front headlight that serves as a flashlight if needed!

The German VAE is also well finished. It opts for cables and integrated lighting, frame-colored seat posts and stem, without visible welding, as well as smooth paint. Missing is the cushioned saddle option, not available at the moment. This wouldn’t be a bad thing knowing that the bike is rigid.

Delivery has been possible in France since this summer, free, and within 3 weeks at the time of writing these lines.
